The Observatory on the Hill

It is early evening, and you are walking up a quiet hill. The path is narrow and grassy, and it curves gently as it climbs. The air is cool, but not cold. It smells of dry grass and warm earth, the way the ground smells after a long, mild day. Somewhere in the hedges, a few crickets are beginning their slow, steady song.

You are in no hurry. Each step is easy. The hill rises gently, and the path is soft beneath your feet. Above you, the sky is fading from pale gold into a deep, gentle blue. The last of the daylight rests on the tops of the grasses, and then, slowly, it lets them go.
